Upaj

Sourabh Bagla, Senior Vice President

Upaj is advancing sustainable agriculture through phygital (physical plus digital) services across the Agri-Value chain, providing stakeholders with seamless access to data and services.

Central to this ecosystem is Insoil, a compact, dual photospectrometry-powered soil testing machine that restores soil health, enhances productivity, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Insoil delivers precise AI-powered nutrient recommendations in under 20 minutes. By optimising fertiliser use, it helps farmers increase yields, lower costs, and preserve their soil quality.

Additionally, through the Mitti Didi (Soil Sister) initiative, Upaj empowers rural women by training them as entrepreneurs to run soil labs, promoting financial independence and gender equality in agriculture.

“We applied for the RISE Accelerator to amplify Insoil’s global mission—restoring
soil health and transforming agriculture. Expanding our impact together with CSIRO
and AIM, across borders, will allow us to empower farmers worldwide with cutting-edge
solutions, driving sustainable practices that safeguard our planet’s future and ensure
food security for generations to come.”

Key achievements over the nine-month program:

  • Australia was initially perceived as a challenging market but revealed significant potential for soil testing technology.
  • Discussions with soil scientists, agronomists and agri-retailers provided by CSIRO and research partners to enhance credibility and technical validation.
  • Support and guidance from CSIRO and program partners in navigating export compliance, local regulations, and partnerships.
  • The experience inspired exploration into other international markets such as the US and Pacific Island nations where soil testing capability is limited in terms of laboratory infrastructure and associated logistics.
