Oxleigh Recycling Technologies
Oxleigh Recycling Technologies is commercialising a unique, environmentally friendly, and patented technology for recycling black mass from used NMC and LFP lithium-ion batteries, currently being piloted at its demonstration plant. Existing recycling facilities rely on pyrometallurgy or hydrometallurgy processes that consume large amounts of energy, are environmentally harmful, and require significant capital investment.
Oxleigh’s process recovers nickel, cobalt, and lithium at high recovery rates as sulphates in aqueous solution. It requires minimal energy, generates little to no environmental waste, and is highly scalable -from compact 1,500 tpa regional plants to large-scale 150,000 tpa facilities – while offering significantly lower capital and operating costs than conventional methods.
Affordable, local recycling solutions are urgently needed worldwide, as black mass is classified as toxic waste, and exporting it to countries with existing pyro- or hydrometallurgical infrastructure may breach international conventions. Oxleigh Recycling Technologies is positioned to meet this global demand with a cleaner, cost-effective alternative.
” We want to build relationships with recyclers in India to share knowledge and experience in recycling black mass. The RISE Accelerator program will give us an opportunity to forge those relationships and open up opportunities for us to work with Indian partners to source raw black mass and share the results of our processing their black mass with them.”
